Casual games are sweeping over the Internet. Not just because they're typically free, or offered in a free version, but because they're fun, easy to engage and appeal to a wide array of people looking to have a few minutes of harmless fun on the Internet. Following are a few of my favorites, all are worth checking out:

1) Kongregate is easily one of my favorites, though not generally well-known by the mainstream surfer. Kongregate has hundreds of games, all free, in dozens of categories. I get a kick out of their strategy section. You'll definitely notice a much more home-made feel in these games, because, that's largely where they're made, but there's still a ton of fun to be had.

2) Pogo offers the more refined games, many are pretty common like Chess, several flavors of solitaire and so on. One of my favorites here is a game called Poppit, which is similar to Bejeweled, but think balloons and cacti.

3) Pop Cap has been a long time favorite; Bejeweled is arguably the most played game ever on a mobile platform. They offer plenty of other well made games too, my favorites include Peggle and Insaniquarium. The only down side is to get many of their latest games, you have to pay, but it's generally worth the cost.

4) Big Fish Games has a strength in hidden object games. Think Where's Waldo, amped up a bit. Most of their games require payment, but all have free trials if you just want to dabble a bit.

5) Arcade Town offers are more games than you could possibly play, but the good news is there are a ton of completely free options. Some are a little hit or miss, but it definitely worth looking through the inventory to find a new favorite.
